Liverpool have officially confirmed the arrival of Arne Slot. The 45-year-old trainer from Bergentheim will succeed Jürgen Klopp at Anfield from June 1, depending on obtaining a work permit.
Slot calls his decision to leave Feyenoord ‘certainly not an easy decision’, the trainer explains after Liverpool and Feyenoord officially announced his transition to England. “But as a sportsman, an opportunity to become a head coach in the Premier League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, is difficult to ignore. I am grateful to Feyenoord for their willingness to cooperate in this transition.”
“I have incredibly enjoyed my three years at Feyenoord and have felt very much at home from day one, both within the club and with the supporters,” Slot said on the Feyenoord website. “When I started in Rotterdam in the summer of 2021, I was convinced that it was possible to achieve success at this wonderful club. The fact that we have reached a European final in three years and won several prizes makes me more than proud.”

Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese also indicated that Liverpool is ‘a special and unique opportunity’ for Slot, who was still under contract until mid-2026. “With that in mind, we started the conversation to see if we could reach an agreement together, and we ultimately succeeded,” said the director.
Te Kloese was also happy that there is now clarity, so that the Rotterdam club has the necessary time to find a new trainer. “Of course, thinking about this started a long time ago because we also knew that there was a real chance that things would turn out the way they have now with Arne.”
“The foundation that has been built in recent years is very strong with a large team of professionals, but the head coach is of course a crucial link in this. I am confident that we will find a very suitable candidate so that Feyenoord can build on its recent successes,” said Kloese.
Klopp’s successor.
Slot takes his assistants Sipke Hulshoff and Etienne Reijnen to Liverpool, as does performance coach Ruben Peeters. The former midfielder of PEC Zwolle, NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam will succeed Jürgen Klopp at Anfield. The 56-year-old German announced in January that he would retire from Liverpool, so that the club had enough time to find a suitable successor. The duration of Slot’s contract has not yet been announced.
Klopp has been Liverpool’s coach since October 2015. He won the Champions League with The Reds in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020, the club’s first league title since 1990. Klopp was at the helm of Liverpool for 490 games, winning 298 of them. Liverpool, who finished third in the Premier League, ended the Klopp era at Anfield on Sunday with a victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Warm welcome.
After the match, the 56-year-old Klopp called on the Liverpool crowd to chant the name of his successor . “I hope you will support Arne as much as you have supported me from day one. Sing along with me: Arne Slot, la la la la la…”
Slot has been at the helm of Feyenoord since the summer of 2021, which picked him up from AZ where he was head coach for a year and a half. In his first season in Rotterdam service, he immediately reached the final of the Conference League. Last season Feyenoord became national champion under his leadership and last month he added the KNVB Cup to his list of achievements. Feyenoord finishes second in the Premier League this season behind champion PSV.
