Pello Bilbao, Ill, Abandons the Tour De France

Spaniard Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) has abandoned the Tour de France during the twelfth stage between Aurillac and Villeneuve-Sur-Lot, after several days of discomfort.

Bilbao (Gernika, 34 years old) started the stage with difficulties, unable to keep up with the pace of the peloton, and was left behind at the first opportunity , so he decided to withdraw with 115 km to go to the finish line.

The 2023 Issoire stage winner was riding solo, more than two minutes ahead of the peloton, when he got off his bike.

This is his first retirement from the Tour de France in five participations. Pello Bilbao finished ninth in 2021 and sixth last year.

Fabio Jakobsen (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) also retired during the 12th stage, while Michael Mørkøv (Astana) did not start after testing positive for COVID .
