Corinthians defeated Bragantino 5-4 on penalties on Tuesday to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana after their rivals overturned their lead during regulation time.
Corinthians, who narrowly missed out on qualification, will face the team that won Wednesday’s game between Brazilian side Fortaleza and Argentine side Rosario Central on September 18.
The São Paulo team, with the support of its fans, went on the attack and pressed until the Argentine Garro scored the first goal in the 23rd minute with a shot from outside the area that bounced off one of the defenders before entering the goal.
At the start of the second half, Bragantino, led by Portuguese Pedro Caixinha, subjected their opponents to a real bombardment and, after a couple of scares for the host, Eduardo Sasha tied the match from outside the area.

Four minutes later, with the Corinthian defence melted by the attacks, Luan Cândido put the visiting team ahead with a header into the top corner, impossible for goalkeeper Hugo Souza.
Although Corinthians reacted in the last five minutes to try to save face, the match went to penalties.
The São Paulo team, led by Argentine Ramón Díaz, came into the match encouraged after beating Bragantino 1-2 last week, with goals from Giovane and Talles Magno.
It was the first victory for the São Paulo team after five draws, although at the weekend they again drew 0-0 with Fluminense in the Brazilian Championship, where they are in the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Bragantino was dragging the defeat in the first leg, as well as a weak performance in the last disputes in the domestic tournament, where it has accumulated one victory, two draws and three defeats in the last six matches and occupies the twelfth position.
