All-rounder Washington Sundar shared his heartfelt thoughts after India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 25-year-old took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to express his emotions and offer hope for the future.
“It is not the result we expected, but this trip has been unforgettable. We left everything on the field and are proud of the heart and resilience shown by the team. A huge thank you to the fans for their incredible support; we feel it every step of the way. To the next,” Sundar posted.
Sundar’s Border-Gavaskar trophy journey
The young all-rounder earned his place in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after an impressive home series against New Zealand. He managed to pick up 16 wickets and at the same time score 89 runs despite India’s 3-0 series defeat at home.
In the series against Australia, Sundar managed to get 3 wickets and scored 114 runs in 3 Tests.
Sundar missed the day-night Test in Adelaide and the rain-affected match at The Gabba. However, he made his mark in the Boxing Day test in Melbourne. He scored 50 in the first innings, showing bravery and determination with the bat. Although his spin got only one wicket in that game, his batting stamina earned praise.

In the fourth Test in Sydney, Sundar’s batting efforts fell short, scoring 14 and 12 in the two innings. The pitch offered little help to the spinners, and Sundar bowled just one over in the entire match – the final over of the game.
India series setback
India’s defeat in the fifth and final Test at the SCG marked its first defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series since 2015. Gautam Gambhir’s team, which had hopes of securing a place in the World Test Championship final, suffered a severe blow.
On the final day at the SCG, India resumed their innings at 141-6 but were bowled out for 157. Australia’s Scott Boland wreaked havoc with figures of 6-45. Chasing a modest target of 162, Australia lost the first few wickets but cruised to a six-wicket win in 27 overs.
