Versatile Barcelona defender wanted by Catalan rivals in January: report

The January transfer window is just a few days away and it promises to be fairly quiet as far as FC Barcelona is concerned.

After all, the Catalan heavyweights do not plan any major movement in the winter market and their only objective is to ensure the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor in La Liga.

While reports have suggested that Deco and Hansi Flick have decided not to let any players leave, that has not stopped rival clubs from taking an interest in some Barca stars.

Girona wants Eric García

After reports emerged earlier this week that Getafe were interested in Pablo Torre, now another player struggling for minutes, Eric García, is attracting suitors.

In fact, according to a report by journalist Rodra P, Barcelona’s Catalan rival Girona FC has set its eyes on Eric García for the upcoming January transfer window.

The versatile Barcelona defender has not had his best season so far, battling injuries and a lack of minutes under Flick. He has played just 541 minutes in 13 La Liga and UEFA Champions League games.

And Girona hope to take advantage of the situation and sign García, who had a memorable season on loan at the Catalan club last season. In fact, Míchel’s men, who are also facing difficulties this season, especially in defense, see his signing as a priority.

It must be remembered that Girona was very close to re-signing García during the summer transfer market. The player was set to move to Girona, but long-term injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen changed things.

The current situation is very different, with Pau Cubarsi and Íñigo Martínez firmly established as first-choice central defenders, along with the expected returns of Araujo and Christensen.

Therefore, García’s departure has become a real possibility and Girona is already working on the agreement. They also have the player’s willingness, who would only leave Barcelona to reunite with Míchel.

The only obstacle Barcelona may present to this move is their view of Eric as more of a defensive midfielder than a central defender. The next few days will be crucial to determine the result.
