After a torrid six months at FC Barcelona, Vitor Roque left the club to join Real Betis in the summer transfer window and is showing signs of progress.
In fact, the 19-year-old has established himself as a regular under Manuel Pellegrini and, although there is still plenty of room for improvement, the Brazilian has shown many positives.
The striker has six goals and two assists in 23 appearances in all competitions this season.
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Vítor Roque
Now, as SPORT reports, a Tottenham Hotspur scout was present at the Benito Villamarín to see Vítor Roque in action during Real Betis’ match against Rayo Vallecano.
Tottenham originally traveled to Spain to observe Johnny Cardoso, the Betis midfielder, on whom they have a purchase option set for June.
However, the Premier League club also asked about Roque, who has become one of Betis’ standout players this season.
Roque, who scored a goal in the match, is attracting a lot of attention from both Europe and Brazil.
Earlier this year, Barcelona were approached by several top clubs regarding Roque’s loan move after it became clear that he would not have enough minutes at the Catalan club. Clubs that expressed interest include Inter Milan, Lazio, Porto and Sporting CP.
In the end, both Barça and the player opted to stay in Spain, and Roque signed for Betis, where he has become a starter under Pellegrini.
Real Betis secured the loan of Roque for two seasons, with options to purchase the player. There is no immediate urgency to make a decision, but growing interest from several clubs could speed up the process.
Tottenham are currently experiencing a run of mixed results and although no moves are expected in January, the summer transfer window is likely to see significant activity.
Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation and is clear that any possible sale would require an agreement with Betis.
After all, the Andalusian club has an option of 25 million euros to buy 80% of Roque’s rights, so any transfer could be beneficial for all parties involved.
Palmeiras have also shown interest in signing the striker, but the deal is considered unviable and Roque has stated that he does not wish to return to Brazil at this time.
