The former Barcelona director confirms his interest in attracting a key trio to Saudi Arabia

Ramon Planes was arguably one of Barcelona’s most influential sporting directors in recent times, playing a key role in the acquisitions of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo, among others.

Planes currently serves as Al Ittihad’s sporting director, a position he took on last summer after leaving Real Betis.

Plans admits Saudi interest in Barcelona stars

In a recent interaction, Planes admitted that Al Ittihad has been following several Barcelona players in a bid to strengthen the squad.

The planes name stars like Gavi and Araujo, potentially in the sights of Al Ittihad, which has the services of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho, among others.

“The names of Araujo, Pedri and Gavi are on the table of other clubs, but they are happy at Barcelona, things will not be easy.” Planes said (h/t Cadena SER).

As mentioned above, Planes played a key role in bringing Araujo and Pedri to Barcelona in the first place.

Now, the Spaniard is interested in attracting these stars to Saudi Arabia. In fact, he even confirmed that Al Ittihad has been in talks with these stars.

“We have been in contact with Barça players to sign them. “We are looking for renowned players to make the league more attractive, but also young talents.” said.

Barcelona, however, is clear about the future of Pedri and Gavi. The club lined up its renewal of these midfielders.

Araujo, however, could be a curious case. Recent reports have indicated that Barcelona may not want to prioritize their renewal plans for the Uruguayan international, especially if the club manages to bring in Jonathan Tah next summer.

Not to mention that Araujo has immense value in the transfer market. Therefore, it will not be surprising if Barcelona considers a possible sale next summer, if the club is in urgent need of new income.
