The director of Girona confirms his interest in signing the versatile Barcelona star

As we approach the final two weeks of the January transfer window, there are several Barcelona stars still facing the prospect of a possible exit.

While the focus has been on Ansu Fati for obvious reasons, Eric García is also a potential candidate for an exit.

The defender continues to be a hot topic at Girona, who are interested in shoring up their defensive options in this winter transfer market.

The Girona director confirms García’s interest

Girona, in fact, is very open about its interest in Eric García. His sporting director, Quique Cárcel, even admitted in a recent interview the desire to bring the defender back to Girona.

“In the summer we already wanted to try to bring Eric García. “He is still a Barcelona player and is doing quite well.” said (h/t AS).

In fact, Girona had approached Barcelona for Eric García in the summer, but the move did not materialise. But it seems that the Catalan team has not given up on the Spanish.

Our intention is to try to bring him in, but we depend on Barça to give us conditions that are realistic for us and that we can do it“Carcel added.

It should be noted that García spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Girona, where he emerged as a first-team starter for Míchel’s defensive unit.

In fact, García’s performances in defense were instrumental in helping Girona exceed all expectations and finish in the top four.

Now, the former Manchester City defender may once again have the opportunity to reunite with his ex, in case Barcelona makes it easy for the interested party.

The club are actively looking for departures at the moment as they look to make room for Marcus Rashford on the wage bill. The possible departure of García, therefore, could be something that Barça considers.
