Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich blatantly attacked India Test captain Rohit Sharma during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy post-match discussions. Katich humorously suggested that Rohit could have a promising career in comedy after cricket, referencing his witty comments in a recent interview.
During the Sydney Test, Rohit Sharma faced questions about his future in cricket after he decided not to take part in the final match. Responding to speculation, Rohit said he was “not going anywhere,” attacking critics with a microphone or a pen. His funny response caught the attention of Katich, who couldn’t resist mocking the Indian captain.
“Well, if you look at the numbers, they are damning. We saw it in this test,” Katich said, as reported by India Today. “It was very selfless of him to choose not to participate in the test. I saw that interview, very well spoken. There is no doubt that he has a future after cricket in comedy because his humor was very good.”

Rohit’s struggles in the Border-Gavaskar trophy
Rohit Sharma endured a forgettable series with the bat. In five innings, he scored just 31 runs, with a best score of 10. His poor form raised concerns about his place in the Indian Test team, especially with a crucial tour of England on the horizon.
In his interview with Star Sports, Rohit expressed optimism about regaining form in the coming months. However, Katich was not so convinced. He pointed out the challenges of performing at the top of the order in Test cricket, particularly for a 37-year-old batsman.
Concerns over Rohit’s future
Katich, who also served as an IPL coach, questioned whether Rohit has the hunger and drive to continue in Test cricket.
“Only he knows if at 37 years old he has the hunger and drive to start over,” Katich said. “England is not going to be an easy series. There are some good fast youngsters coming through. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are doing well.”
Katich also highlighted the tough conditions India will face in England. “I dare say it will be a tough tour if he decides to take part and the Indian selectors pick him in the first place. Those numbers don’t make for pleasant reading. Test cricket is no place for 37-year-olds at the top of the order. History suggests so, and only Rohit Sharma knows if he is hungry to move forward.”
