PSL 2025 draft rescheduled for January 13 in Lahore

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a new date for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft 2025. The event was originally scheduled to take place on January 11 in Gwadar, Balochistan. However, it will now take place on January 13 at Huzoori Bagh of Lahore Fort.

Why the change in the PSL draft date?

The PCB pointed to weather forecasts as the main reason for delaying the draft by two days. The change was made to give the production team and announcers enough time to get everything ready for the event. Rain is expected in Gwadar on January 11.

A rehearsal for the draft ceremony will be held on January 12, allowing the PSL management to iron out any logistical issues before the main event.

PCB Official Statement

The PCB issued a press release confirming the rescheduled draft date and venue. “The HBL PSL Player Draft has been rescheduled and will now take place on January 13 at Huzoori Bagh, Lahore Fort,” the statement read. The board also mentioned that Gwadar would remain a key venue in the HBL PSL 2025 Trophy Tour scheduled for March.

The event will be broadcast live starting at 12:30 pm PKT on January 13, and the six franchises will assemble their teams for the much-anticipated 10th edition of the league.

Qadir Khawaja confirms the news

Prominent journalist Qadir Khawaja broke the news on social media and confirmed the postponement. He shared that the PSL leadership is keen to ensure a smooth and well-organised drafting process.

“Exclusive: Pakistan Super League Season 10 writing date has been changed,” Khawaja posted on X (formerly Twitter). “The ceremony will now take place in Lahore on January 13. The rehearsal will take place on January 12. The date change was due to the forecast of rain in Gwadar. “The PSL management wants the event to run efficiently.”

Key players register for PSL Draft

This year’s PSL draft will feature some high-profile international names, including former Australian opener David Warner, retired New Zealand pacer Tim Southee and Bangladesh stars Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. More than 80 foreign players have registered for the draft.

Interestingly, the PSL 2025 season will run parallel to the Indian Premier League (IPL), giving the PCB an opportunity to attract international stars who were not sold in the mega auction of IPL 2024. While the salary caps could deter some players, others may be tempted to join the PSL for the chance to play in front of passionate crowds.
