Barcelona faced José Bordalás’ Getafe on Saturday night in a league clash the team has hated for years.
After all, the team’s last goal at the Alfonso Pérez Coliseum before kickoff was in 2019 and the team was winless in its last four appearances at the stadium.
On this occasion, however, it didn’t take long for Barcelona to take the lead thanks to Jules Kounde. However, Getafe found a surprising equalizer in the first half to force the game into another decisive stalemate.
The second half was very intense, as both coaches made tactical changes to outdo the other. However, it eventually came down to a goalless half and the two teams split the spoils.
Barça Universal brings you the evaluations of the Getafe 1-1 Barcelona players.
Pena Overlap: 8
The young Spaniard returned to his duties as Barcelona’s league goalkeeper and did not have a very busy first half although he had to intervene for Getafe’s equalizer.
He did well to stop the initial shot but couldn’t do much with the rebound.
Alejandro Balde: 7.5
The left back continued his upward trend and played a good game at the Alfonso Pérez Coliseum, tormenting the home team with his pace and cunning on the left flank.
He played a key role in the first goal with a move down the left flank to find Pedri in space and always threatened on the counterattack.
Pau Cubarsi: 7
The youngster once again delivered a mature performance on the first anniversary of his debut with the first team. With Íñigo Martínez out, he assumed more responsibility in the preparation phase in addition to his defensive duties.
Ronald Araujo: 7
The captain maintained his good form and also impressed with his distribution.
His direct style of defense largely suited Getafe’s physical style of play, although he could not do much to prevent the hosts’ equaliser, which came after a rebound.
Jules Koundé: 8.5
The right back continued his good streak and found the back of the net again, scoring the team’s first goal with a calm shot that beat David Soria.
He maintained his understanding with Lamine Yamal and raised questions about Getafe’s left wing.
Marc Casado: 6.5
A decent first part of Casado with nothing extraordinary beyond his usual duties of holding down the fortress.
At times he seemed a little nervous on the ball and was under pressure from Getafe’s occasional pressure. Sacrificed in the second half due to a tactical change.
Peter: 9
Pedri was by far Barcelona’s most comfortable player in midfield despite Getafe’s physical presence. He controlled the pace of the game, looked to pass the ball through the defense and also held his own as a pivot.
He created the first goal out of nowhere with his magical touch, passing the ball practically through the entire Getafe team to find Kounde.
Gavi: 7.5
A relatively calm first half by Gavi’s high standards, as they did not create any extraordinary threats in the Getafe area.
He did well to combine with Yamal and company in the build-up, but was often overwhelmed by Getafe’s solid defensive lines.
Lamin Yamal: 9
Whether Getafe or Real Madrid, Yamal’s dribbling skills and magic see no change.
Despite playing against compact defensive lines, the young protégé danced down the left flank with magical touches and created repeated threats down the flank.
Rafinha: 8.5
The Brazilian was forced to go deep for most of the game to add numbers in the midfield and provide outlets for the pass, thus reducing his presence as a scoring threat.
He had a sensational chance to double Barcelona’s lead just before the equalizer but couldn’t find the right header.
Robert Lewandowski: 7
The Poland international struggled to find his footing in the tight spaces of the Getafe area, never having enough space to get his foot around the ball and generate power for a shot.
Frenkie de Jong: 7
The Frenchman replaced Casado in the second half when Flick tried to bring verticality to the dynamic at the expense of some defensive stability.
He largely played in a deeper role, anchoring play and playing as part of the double pivot and did well to maintain the positive form he showed against Real Betis.
