Liverpool reject Barcelona’s €47m offer for striker: report

FC Barcelona recently attempted to strengthen their forward line by offering £39.7 million (€47 million) for Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, but the Reds quickly rejected the offer, according to a report from Indykaila News.

The move is part of Barcelona’s ongoing efforts to address its forward position, but its approach has faced obstacles.

The club is well aware that as long as Robert Lewandowski remains at the club, it will be difficult to attract another top striker who is willing to play a supporting role.

Barcelona needs a forward

Barcelona has been needing more depth in its attack for a long time. Given that Lewandowski has been the main striker for years, there is growing concern that relying solely on him is not sustainable.

The lack of a reliable substitute for Lewandowski has led the club’s sporting management, together with coach Hansi Flick, to underline the need for a new addition to the forward line.

If this situation is not resolved, there is a real risk of overloading the Polish striker, which could have negative consequences for both his performance and the team as a whole.

Options are being considered

Initially, Barcelona’s plan was to target a younger, more promising player who could be acquired for a reasonable fee. One of those players was Lille’s Jonathan David.

However, David’s playing style does not fully align with Barcelona’s tactical needs and the high financial demands of the deal made it less viable.

Given this, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been actively exploring other options on the market.

However, there is a clear understanding that any potential signing would have to be players capable of complementing Lewandowski rather than challenging his position in the team.

This has narrowed the club’s focus as they are interested in finding a solution that adds depth to their attack without altering the current team dynamic.

As far as Núñez is concerned, it seems unlikely that Barcelona have submitted an offer as they are already fighting to sign Dani Olmo, something that is much more important to him than signing a striker at the moment.
