La Liga club’s president confirms intentions with key defender amid Barcelona links

Oscar Mingueza has thrived at Celta Vigo since leaving FC Barcelona. The versatile Spanish defender is, in fact, enjoying the best season of his career in 2024/25, prompting him to break into the national team as Europe’s best clubs have taken note.

Among those interested is also Barça, which is looking for a new right back to cover Jules Kounde.

Mingueza, due to his good performances with Celta, is emerging as an effective option, especially taking into account that the Catalans have a buy-back clause for him of 9 million euros.

In the event that the buyback option is no longer active, Barça also retains 50% of the future sale of Mingueza, and given that his termination clause at Celta is 20 million euros, he could re-sign for 10 million euros.

Celta wants to retain Mingueza

In an interview with AS (h/t SPORT), Celta president Marian Mourino analyzed the club’s position on Mingueza’s future and the possibility of another club activating his release clause.

“Termination clauses always exist and anyone can pay them. Mingueza has been an important player for us, both on the field and in the locker room. He is international and I see him so happy here that it is difficult for me to think that he will leave.” she said.
