The Indian cricket drama has just gotten juicier. Reports of leaked dressing room conversations have created a storm during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Irfan Pathan and Sreevats Goswami did not hold back and expressed their frustration over the violation.
Pathan posted on X: “What happens in the locker room should stay in the locker room!” Goswami joined in and tweeted: “How did the dressing room chat get leaked to the media? “This is just not right.”
The rumor started later The Indian Express reported on head coach Gautam Gambhir’s fiery comments following India’s Boxing Day Test loss to Australia. Apparently, Gambhir no longer wanted players to stick to their “natural game” instead of playing according to the needs of the team.
Gambhir’s no-nonsense rant
Gambhir did not mince his words. “I’ve had enough,” he reportedly told the team after the 184-run loss. Without naming names, he highlighted the lack of adaptability and made it clear that things needed to change.
It seems Gambhir’s frustration also stems from his disagreements with captain Rohit Sharma and BCCI selectors over team selection and strategies. Reports suggest that Gambhir lobbied for Cheteshwar Pujara to be included in the Australia tour but the selectors rejected the idea. Other disputes reportedly included the selection of players like Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar.
Indian team under pressure
India’s problems are not just due to leaks. They are trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, and the final Test in Sydney could make or break their campaign. The team has been struggling for a while now, especially after their shocking 0-3 loss at home against New Zealand, the first time in history.
Things started strongly in Perth with stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah scoring a huge 290-run win. But after Rohit Sharma’s return, things took a turn for the worse quickly. A 10-wicket defeat in Adelaide and a rain-affected draw in Brisbane did not help their case.
The sadness of boxing day
The Boxing Day test in Melbourne was the latest disappointment. India allowed Australia to post a massive 474 in the first innings and then conceded a 105-run lead. Even after reducing Australia to 91 for 6 in their second innings, the visitors let the lower order rack up crucial runs, setting a target of 330.
The chase began horribly. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got out early, leaving India at 33 for 3. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant held the fort for a while, but then Pant’s reckless shot against Travis Head led to a collapse. India lost seven wickets in just 34 runs, finishing on 155 and suffering their first Boxing Day defeat in Melbourne in more than a decade.
