After high-scoring games so far in 2025, Barcelona face a tough challenge this weekend when they take on Getafe in La Liga.
The clash will begin on Saturday night at the Alfonso Pérez Coliseum, a stadium known for being one of the most ruthless grounds in La Liga and the most difficult to score.
Barcelona itself comes into the match with a poor record at the venue in recent years and the responsibility of turning around the team’s fortunes will fall to Hansi Flick.
No luck in years
Barcelona’s last goal against Getafe at the Coliseum dates back to September 28, 2019, when Luis Suárez and Junior Firpo scored in the 2-0 victory of the Ernesto Valverde era.
At that time, only Frenkie de Jong, Ansu Fati and Marc-Andre ter Stegen were part of the squad that remains at the club today.
When Barcelona traveled to face Getafe in October 2020, the hosts recorded a surprising 1-0 victory and dealt Barcelona a major blow to their title chances. Since then, all three matches have ended in draws.
Barcelona’s last two coaches have failed to achieve a victory at the stadium: Ronald Koeman suffered a defeat in his only game there and Xavi succumbed to three draws in as many appearances.
Now, under the command of Hansi Flick, Barcelona enters the game as one of the deadliest attacking teams in Europe. However, it won’t be easy given Getafe’s low block and relentless patience in defense.
The last time the two teams met earlier this season, Barcelona took home a narrow 1-0 victory with a goal from Robert Lewandowski and it is clear that the challenge tomorrow will be difficult.
Flick, however, appeared confident in his pre-match press conference and reiterated that his team had a plan in mind.
“What we know from the past is that it is very difficult to score goals. We have talked about it with the team and we hope to achieve it.” said.
