Division within Barcelona over the possible summer move of the star forward valued at 75 million euros

One of Barcelona’s key objectives for next season is to reinforce the squad with a new left back. Both the sports management and coach Hansi Flick are looking to incorporate a high-quality player for that position.

Two options that were discussed last summer are still on the table. One of them is Nico Williams, although his high price, competition from other clubs and the player’s indecision make this decision complicated.

Another possible option is Rafael Leao, the Portuguese forward who currently plays for AC Milan, but is eager to leave the Italian club.

Barcelona has not yet made a decision on Leao

However, according to MARCA, Barcelona have not yet made a firm decision on Leao’s signing, which seems to be generating differences of opinion within the club.

He blaugrana President Joan Laporta has always supported this measure. Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, has been the driving force behind this possible transfer, as he had been looking to bring Leao to the Catalan club for some time.

Although Mendes is not Leao’s official representative, the Portuguese agent has worked to facilitate his departure and is pushing for the forward to join Barcelona. Laporta listens carefully, but this transfer will not be easy.

Two major concerns

The main obstacle is the cost. Leao’s market value is estimated at around €75 million, and it is no secret that Barcelona are still struggling with Financial Fair Play issues.

There is also division of opinion within Barcelona regarding Leao’s departure. Neither the sports management nor the coaching staff are completely convinced with the idea.

While they acknowledge that Leao is a talented player, his recent behavior in Milan has raised concerns. The player has had conflicts with his coach, Paulo Fonseca, since the latter’s arrival this season, which has generated rumors about the growing distance between the two.

The situation escalated after Leao reportedly refused to go to the bench during a hydration break in a game, an act that was seen as a direct snub to his coach.

Barcelona has taken good note of this evolution. It is still early for the Catalans to make decisions about which winger to sign.

In addition to Leao, there are several other options under consideration, and available funds will be a key factor in determining what move the club can make. However, Mendes’ continued persistence could also play a decisive role in the outcome.
