Pau Cubarsi was one of the standout players in Barcelona’s 5-1 victory over Real Betis last night in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, forming a solid defensive partnership with Ronald Araujo.
The young centre-back impressed with the same composure and reliability that he showed alongside Íñigo Martínez in previous matches.
Despite being only 17 years old, Cubarsi continues to exude maturity and composure beyond his years.
However, the center-back was not the only 17-year-old who shone last night for Barcelona, as his teammates The Masia Graduate Lamine Yamal also dazzled with another sublime attacking display.
Cubarsi praises Lamine
Speaking to the media, Cubarsi praised Lamine Yamal and stated that he had always enjoyed watching the young winger play and now everyone can enjoy it.
“Leaf? “I have enjoyed watching it for many years and now everyone is enjoying it.” he said, quoted by SPORT.
Reflecting on his own progress with the first team, Cubarsi expressed satisfaction with his development over the past year.
“I have had a very positive year. It’s been almost a year since my debut and I want to continue giving confidence to the coach and the fans. My goal is to continue like this.” he stated.
The defender also highlighted the team’s response after a difficult moment before the national team break.
“We went through a rough patch, but the break really helped us refresh and recharge.” he summarized.
Gerard Martín talks about Lamine Yamal
Another young man who had a solid game was left back Gerard Martín, who entered the starting lineup last night in place of Alejandro Balde.
The 22-year-old also praised Lamine after the Golden Boy teenager’s impressive performance in Barcelona’s attack.
“Yes, in every game he does incredible things. “There are also many important players who do very well in games.” he told Barça One.
Martín almost scored his first goal for Barcelona last night, but it wasn’t meant to be for the left back. Reflecting on that moment, he said:
“Yes, I actually had a great feeling at that moment… It was great for me to try to score my first goal for Barcelona. “I dribbled around the defense but they got too close.”
Discussing the team’s performance and start to 2025 after a lackluster finish to 2024, Martin added:
“Yes, we knew that winning the Super Cup was an important start and it was essential to start with a victory in the Copa del Rey to maintain that momentum. “We are very happy.”
Regarding whether he believes that Barcelona has returned to its best level, the Spaniard commented: “Yes, as I said, after the difficult period we went through, we have now overcome it and are 100% in great shape.”
Martín also expressed his happiness at receiving opportunities and being able to contribute in the field, saying: “I’m very happy to have these opportunities and I try to make the most of them.”
