Barcelona face a crucial challenge today as the club attempts to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor in La Liga. Despite missing the official deadline, Barcelona remains optimistic about the resolution of the situation.
Now, as reported by AS, the club plans to argue that the delay was due to banking problems, which prevented them from completing the necessary payments on time.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has one last opportunity to register the two players before the start of the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro.
The Club intends to convince La Liga to reinstate the 1:1 rule, which would allow them to sign players normally.
Barcelona’s argument to support the case
To support its case, Barcelona intends to demonstrate that funds from the sale of VIP seats at the Camp Nou, worth between €100 and €120 million, have already been deposited into the club’s account.
The club claims that, on December 31, the money was insured but could not be transferred to the bank due to banking procedures.
Since the window closed on December 31 and banks do not process transactions from the afternoon of the 31st until January 2, Barcelona were not able to make the deposit until January 3. This delay, according to the club, was the only reason they missed the deadline.
The League has the key
If La Liga and the Federation continue to block player registration, Barcelona is prepared to take legal action.
The club has already filed precautionary measures, arguing that the registration rule should not be applied in this case due to “force majeure.”
Barcelona assures that, despite achieving the sale of the VIP seats and receiving 120 million euros from the buyer, it was not able to complete the necessary procedures because the timing coincided with the end of the year.
Laporta can address the situation today
In an attempt to clarify the situation, Barcelona could ask Joan Laporta to address the matter publicly before Hansi Flick’s press conference.
This is especially urgent since Barcelona will debut in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro the following day.
If the registration issue is not resolved, it could have significant consequences for the club.
In such a scenario, Barcelona could be forced to compensate Olmo for his full contract, which runs until 2030, and potentially offer him a free transfer.
