Álvaro Carreras is quickly becoming one of Europe’s most talked about back-up prospects, thanks to his stellar season at SL Benfica so far.
Formerly of Manchester United, Carreras has shown brilliance on the left flank this season, racking up three goals and four assists.
The youngster’s performances have been key in helping Benfica finally find a replacement for Alejandro Grimaldo at left-back.
However, it looks like Benfica have a battle on their hands as they look to keep Carreras, who has already become a target for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
How much would Carreras cost?
A recent report from Transfers has offered more insight into the Carreras transfer saga amid interest from two Spanish giants.
According to the report, interested parties would have to shell out 18 million euros to acquire the services of SL Benfica Full-Back.
This amount is stipulated due to a buy-back clause held by the player’s former club, Manchester United, who may also consider bringing the Spaniard back to Old Trafford.
For now, it is Barcelona who has kept high tabs at fullback. In fact, the Catalans were left as mere spectators when Carreras produced an outstanding performance against them in the Champions League recently.
Although Barça ended up securing an entertaining 5-4 victory, Carreras’ performance could have impressed the club’s hierarchy and coaching staff.
From a sporting perspective, Carreras could be an excellent addition to Hansi Flick’s defensive unit as he can offer cover for Alejandro Balde at left back, while the youngster can also operate a little further forward if required.
However, with a price tag of €18 million and competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United, it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can achieve this pursuit.
