Barcelona midfielder’s maestro receives prestigious award

Barcelona midfielder Pedri has not been short of praise in his young career so far.

Notably, the Spaniard won the prestigious Golden Boy award in 2021. He also won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or Gala that same year.

Now, Pedri has added another feather to his cap by winning another prestigious award, this time awarded by a local Spanish body.

Pedri wins the award for Best Son of Tenerife

In fact, Pedri has received the prestigious ‘Illustrious Son of the Island of Tenerife’ award, which celebrates all his achievements as a footballer at only 22 years old.

The award literally translates as ‘The best son of Tenerife’which is a sporting honor awarded to people from the island of Tenerife, the largest in the Canary Islands.

Pedri, a native of the town of Tegueste, located in the interior of the Tenerife Islands, is a true Canarian, having started his career in Las Palmas.

The award, therefore, celebrates Pedri’s success, as a Tenerife native, although most of his success has occurred in Catalonia.

Upon receiving this award, Pedri had a heartfelt message for the fans and the association.

“I have received many awards in my short career. I have greatly appreciated each of them, but nothing compares to this award. Being recognized in your country is something special and I will never forget it.” he said (h/t El Chiringuito).

“I never imagined that I would receive this great honor at only 22 years old. I have always wanted to dedicate all my successes to my island and the Canary Islands. This honor is without a doubt the most important for me,“added the midfielder.

To receive this award, Pedri was accompanied by another Tenerife star, Ayoze Pérez, along with the Minister of Sports of Tenerife and the president of the Tenerife City Council.
