Barcelona still maintains hope in the signings of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, although the situation remains complicated.
In that sense, January 3 marks a crucial day for the club as they remain optimistic that the problem can be resolved. The board of directors has stated that they believe the situation will be resolved positively on Friday.
Barcelona’s plan involves receiving all official confirmations of payment for the sale of VIP seats at the future Spotify Camp Nou, which is expected to happen tomorrow.
These payments are a key part of the contract and are essential to meet the financial requirements set by La Liga and other governing bodies.
The club focuses especially on article 130.2 of the RFEF general regulations, which suggests that players can be re-registered in special circumstances, such as “force majeure or regulatory provision.”
Barcelona is in real trouble.
However, the current situation presents several obstacles. Although Olmo has been released from La Liga, the possibility of him playing in other competitions such as the Copa del Rey, the Super Cup or the Champions League is still in doubt.
Technically, a player can have a federation license but not play in La Liga due to financial fair play issues. However, he could still participate in tournaments managed by the RFEF, such as the Copa del Rey or the Super Cup.
Barcelona has requested a new license from the RFEF, but the biggest obstacle is for La Liga to have the final say.
According to regulations, La Liga must review and approve club licenses before the RFEF can issue them. Without the approval of La Liga, the RFEF cannot grant the necessary license to Olmo or any other player to participate in official matches.
Will they be able to play in the UEFA Champions League?
According to SPORT, this issue also extends to European competitions. Without proper registration, players like Olmo and Víctor would not be able to play in the Champions League, as UEFA relies on the Spanish Federation to process player registrations.
According to the regulations;
“In order to participate in the aforementioned UEFA competitions, any new player must, among other things, be duly registered with the national federation as a player of the club concerned, in accordance with the rules of the associations and FIFA.”
As a result, Olmo and Víctor would not be able to appear in Barcelona’s remaining Champions League group matches against Benfica and Atalanta.
