Just one day before Athetlc Club’s big Super Cup match against Barcelona, club president Jon Uriarte offered his opinion on Barça’s continued registration problems.
The Blaugranas hope for a favorable result from the Higher Sports Council (CSD), which will allow Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor to provisionally register.
If the verdict arrives in time, both Olmo and Víctor, who have traveled with the team to Saudi Arabia, could even play in the match against Athletic Club.
The president of Athletic Club on the issue of Barcelona registrations
“It is something that is an issue between Barcelona, La Liga and the Federation,” Uriarte began (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
It should be noted that Athletic Club is reportedly one of the clubs that has opposed Barcelona’s push for the registration of Olmo and Víctor, urging La Liga to implement strict measures.
Uriarte, however, refuted these claims and stated: “I don’t know where this information comes from, Barcelona’s registrations are part of La Liga and the Federation, when we have had doubts we have consulted the regulations, with the aim of clarifying them.”
“Athletic is not part of any common front, the regulations are the same for everyone. The feeling is common: the rules are the same for everyone in all competitions.” he added.
Uriarte, however, stressed that the rules must be followed and applied equally, which can be seen as a veiled dig at Barcelona’s attempts to seek precautionary measures.
“There are rules in the different competitions, which are the same for everyone and must be followed,” said.
However, it seems that Athletic Club is not willing to take sides and is adopting a similar stance to Real Madrid, who have remained silent on the matter.
Uriarte went on to reveal that he has not had any conversations with Joan Laporta about the matter, stating: “We haven’t spoken, but we’ll see each other at the game and we’ll hug each other.”.”
Uriarte on the future of Nico Williams
The president of Athletic Club also referred to the future of Nico Williams, who continues to be a hot topic at Barcelona despite his failed signing this summer.
“It’s something I don’t think about anymore. For us Nico is an important player. “He is a player who comes from the youth team and is part of the first team.” said.
“We are in four competitions, we are here with the ambition to fight for this title. “We are working to make a great project and for players like Nico to be part of it.” he concluded.
