Raphinha has been arguably one of Barcelona’s best players this season, racking up 20 goals and 11 assists.
The winger recently put in a stellar performance in the 5-1 win over Real Betis as he scored a goal, taking his tally to 20 goals for the season.
Raphinha leads the Brazilian legends of Barcelona’s past
In the wake of Raphinha’s performance against Real Betis, a recent report from MARCA has offered a comprehensive look at all the Brazilian legends of the past and how they have performed against Raphinha.
It turns out that Raphinha leads the likes of Neymar, Ronaldo and Rivaldo in terms of number of goals scored in the month of January in a season.
As mentioned above, Raphinha’s current tally is 20 goals in 28 competitive games, a figure that none of Brazil’s past stars have reached before.
This includes former Ballon d’Or winners Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho. Not even modern star Neymar could match that figure in any of his seasons at Barcelona.
To find someone who surpasses Raphinha you have to go back to the 60s, specifically to the 61-62 season, when Evaristo de Macedo accumulated 21 goals in 21 games in the first month of the year between league games and the extinct Fairs Cup.
This is indicative of the kind of turnaround Raphinha has been enjoying this season, especially after a difficult campaign under previous manager Xavi Hernandez, who was not a big fan of the Brazil international.
However, under Flick’s leadership, things have changed for Raphinha. The former Leeds United star has been playing with more confidence and dedication, which has been reflected in his performances on the pitch.
Raphinha is already sixth among the top Brazilian scorers of all time at Barça, having recently surpassed another icon like Romario.
Having doubled his goal tally in his first two seasons at Barcelona, Raphinha has an excellent chance to increase his tally further and perhaps even reach the 50 goals involved mark.
For now, however, the Brazilian will focus on the next task at hand, when Barcelona take on Getafe tonight.
