Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona appears increasingly uncertain as recent reports from AS reveal that his agent, Ali Dursun, has been exploring potential opportunities in the Saudi Pro League.
This development suggests that the Dutch midfielder could already be considering a life away from Barcelona, despite his current contract with Barcelona ending in June 2026.
Dursun has reportedly initiated contacts with Saudi clubs, inquiring about the progress of the league, daily life and cultural aspects in the country.
While these discussions are still at an early stage, they indicate movement within De Jong’s camp regarding his future plans.
The Saudi Pro League, with its financial strength, is one of the few markets capable of accommodating De Jong’s large contract, making it a plausible destination should he decide to leave Barcelona.
Difficult renewal at Barcelona because…
Barcelona, for its part, remains interested in renewing De Jong’s contract, but wants to do so on significantly reduced conditions. Currently, the Dutch international earns around €9 million net per year, in addition to a loyalty bonus of €4.2 million.
In addition, he is entitled to an additional 2 million euros if he participates in at least 60% of Barcelona’s matches this season.
However, the club’s sports management has made it clear that they are not willing to continue on these terms if he refuses to negotiate a renewal.
The situation is further complicated by the tense relationship between De Jong and the club, arising from Barcelona’s attempts to get rid of him during the summer of 2022.

Despite remaining at the club, the atmosphere remains tense and Barcelona’s plan is firm: if De Jong does not accept a renewal, it is possible that he will no longer occupy a prominent place in the team next season.
