AS recently reported that Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s agent, Ali Dursun, was in contact with Saudi Arabian Pro League clubs.
The 27-year-old player finds himself in a complicated situation at Barça, taking into account that he has lost weight in the squad this season, falling behind players like Marc Casado, Pedri, Gavi and Dani Olmo in the pecking order.
Furthermore, with his contractual situation still stagnant, De Jong’s future at Barcelona beyond this season has become a big question mark.
Amid this, the AS report suggested that Dursun had held consultations with Saudi Pro League clubs regarding the development of the competition, as well as the country’s customs and daily life.
Dursun shuts down the rumors
However, shortly after the report emerged, De Jong’s agent Ali Dursun put an end to the speculation by stating that the reports were false and that the midfielder is not exploring a possible move to Saudi Arabia.
In fact, the Dutchman’s representative even suggested that a renewal with Barcelona could be on the table since the player is happy and settled where he is.
“Reports about a possible move to Saudi Arabia are complete nonsense. And it distracts Frenkie from what he really wants: to shine at the club he loves the most and where he feels at home.” Dursun confirmed to The telegraph.
“And who knows, maybe we [Barça/Frenkie] stay together longer…” he added.
As mentioned above, De Jong’s contract situation has become an issue as his current contract expires in 2026 and no progress has been made on an extension.
He blaugrana He intends to renew his contract but with a lower salary than what he currently earns and had even sent him an offer months ago to which the midfielder did not respond.
It has given rise to suspicion within the club that the player could be planning to leave as a free agent when his contract expires in 2026.
As such, De Jong has been given an ultimatum: renew his contract or agree to be placed on the transfer market next summer.
But comments from his agent suggest a renewal may not be out of the question.
