Simeone tested the lineup with the former Chelsea player earlier this week in training and it appears he is happy enough with the result to make the change for the match.

Gallagher will be positioned on the left flank of Atlético’s four-man midfield, where he will support Javi Galán in defense and provide forward momentum when in possession.

Otherwise no changes

The rest of the team is expected to remain unchanged from Atlético’s victory over Getafe with Rodrigo De Paul and Pablo Barrios lining up in midfield while Giuliano Simeone occupies the right wing, trying to exploit the spaces left by the high line of the Barça.

In defence, José María Giménez will partner Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet, who will be able to play against his parent club. Marcos Llorente is expected to continue at right back with Galán at left.

At the top, Simeone plans to rely on the partnership of former Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann and summer signing Julián Álvarez, meaning Alexander Sorloth misses out.
