The 2024 edition of the Globe Soccer Awards, which will be held in Palm, Dubai, has featured many prominent football figures, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Vinicius Junior.
A host of Barcelona players are also competing in the event, with Lamine Yamal being the star representative, with the youngster winning the Emerging Player of the Year award.
However, a big absence from Barcelona at the Globe Soccer event has been the club’s president, Joan Laporta.
Laporta was not seen anywhere near the event, although he did travel to Dubai.
Why Laporta did not attend the Globe Soccer gala
A recent report from Sports World has offered more perspective on Laporta’s absence at the Globe Soccer event.
Although Laporta did travel to Dubai, he did not attend the event after learning that the court had refused to grant precautionary measures for the registration of Dani Olmo.
This led Laporta to cancel his visit to the Globe Soccer gala and work from his hotel, trying to find a solution for Olmo’s registration, especially as the deadline approaches.
Barcelona has until December 31 to register Olmo. The club hoped that the court would issue a precautionary measure. But now that the court has rejected it, the club must look for other options.
Barcelona have been working on a deal to sell VIP tickets at the Camp Nou, which could generate a significant influx.
Laporta is therefore in constant contact with the Barcelona board, trying to reach an agreement that could help the club sign Olmo and Pau Torres at the last moment.
Meanwhile, the club president had decided to send some of his trusted men to the Globe Soccer gala, as representatives of Barcelona.
