Australia Test captain Pat Cummins expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah after leading his team to a historic 3-1 victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The victory, which ended Australia’s decade-long wait for the coveted trophy, was celebrated at the Sydney Cricket Ground after the hosts chased down a target of 162 runs on Day 3 of the final Test.
A series of memorable tests for Cummins
After the series-clinching victory, Cummins didn’t hold back his emotions. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he termed the Border-Gavaskar series as one of his favorite Test battles. He also credited Indian captains Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah for making the series memorable.
“Unreal. Few of us didn’t have this Trophy. It lived up to all the expectations,” said Cummins. “We’ve just been clear with our plans. We tried to be proactive and in the end we achieved it. Immensely proud.”

Cummins praised the camaraderie within his team. “We had a lot of fun playing together. I love playing with these guys. “Such a special group,” he added.
Why did Cummins thank Rohit and Bumrah?
Both Rohit and Bumrah led the Indian team at different times in the series. Bumrah’s absence in the final innings of the fifth Test, due to a back problem, turned the tide in Australia’s favour. Cummins acknowledged the competitiveness of the series and thanked the Indian duo for their contributions to a fiercely contested battle.
“These are the big series you prepare for. There were interesting moments where our mainstays really held their own,” Cummins said. “It would become one of my favorite Test series. Thanks to Rohit and Jasprit. The fans made the series. Every place was amazing.”
Cummins adds another trophy to his cabinet
With this victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Pat Cummins added another accolade to his impressive captaincy record. After leading Australia to their first World Test Championship victory in 2023 and retaining the Ashes in England, Cummins continues to establish himself as one of the most successful Test captains today.
Under his leadership, Australia also won the ODI World Cup, defeating India in the final at home. Victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy now completes his collection of important titles.
Try Cricket’s Timeless Appeal
Cummins’ comments highlighted the enduring allure of Test cricket. He praised the crowds at venues such as the MCG and SCG, highlighting the energy and enthusiasm fans bring to the game.
“Three sellouts in three days here in Sydney. It shows why Test cricket is so special and why we love playing it,” Cummins said. “Seeing everyone wear pink and celebrate an incredible cause is a great way to start the year,” she concluded.
