Manchester United plan to tempt Barcelona prop with lucrative contract offer

Íñigo Martínez has enjoyed a season of resurgence at FC Barcelona under Hansi Flick. After a complicated debut plagued by injuries, the Basque defender has become a key piece this season.

Having logged more than 2,100 minutes in 24 games in the first half of the season, the 33-year-old veteran is one of Flick’s most trusted lieutenants.

However, his contractual situation at Barcelona has not gone unnoticed and according to TransfersManchester United has become a potential suitor for Martínez, in case his renewal does not take place at the Catalan club.

The importance of the former Athletic Club captain in the Barça squad has been evident this season. His defensive solidity, his leadership at the back and his ability to play from defense have made him an indispensable figure for Flick.

However, the 33-year-old Spaniard’s contract expires in the summer of 2025, putting Manchester United on alert.

It should be noted that there is an option to extend Martínez’s contract for another year if he plays a certain number of games this season, something he is on track to achieve. But this does not seem to have deterred the Red Devils.

In fact, Manchester United is closely monitoring the situation of the Spanish defender and sees in Martínez a solution to their defensive problems.

The prospect of acquiring the 33-year-old centre-back on a free transfer is especially attractive to the Premier League club, who are willing to offer a tempting contract to secure his arrival in the summer.

While Barcelona works to finalize the renewal of one of its key players, United’s interest threatens to complicate negotiations.

The coming months will be crucial in determining the future of the defender, whose continued presence is a priority for the blaugrana project.
