Liverpool eyeing €45m Barcelona midfielder: report

Frenkie de Jong finds himself in a difficult situation at FC Barcelona as he has fallen down Hansi Flick’s pecking order since returning from his long injury absence.

In fact, the 27-year-old is already behind Marc Casado, Pedri, Gavi and Dani Olmo in Flick’s order of preference, while the German tactician has also used Eric García ahead of the Dutchman on occasions off the bench.

With De Jong losing his position within the team and his contract renewal talks going nowhere, talks of a summer exit are circulating even though we haven’t reached January yet.

Barça have even reportedly informed the former Ajax player that he must sign a new contract, which will have a lower salary, or agree to be transfer-listed in the summer of 2025, as they wish to avoid losing him for free in 2026. .

Liverpool interested in Frenkie de Jong

Now, according to reports in England, carried by AS, Premier League giants Liverpool have shown interest in signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

According to the report, the Reds were only interested in the Netherlands international last summer, but his injury meant there was never any chance of a move being made.

Liverpool are thriving under Arne Slot and are favorites to win the Premier League title this season. And it seems that the Dutch coach wants to add more quality to his midfield by bringing in his compatriot De Jong next summer.

Today there was even talk that the heavyweight Dutch midfielder was considering a move to Saudi Arabia, which his agent dismissed and hinted that the player is still interested in staying at Barcelona.

However, for that to happen, the blaugrana and De Jong must reach an agreement on his contract before the season ends.
