With the Super Cup on the horizon and continued uncertainties over the availability of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor due to registration issues, Fernández’s chances of traveling to Saudi Arabia look promising, Diario SPORT reports.
His warm-up alongside Marc Casado and Alejandro Balde during the Barbastro match, under the watchful eye of Flick, was a clear example of the trust and expectations placed in him.
Fernández, whom Flick has closely followed and cared for since the pre-season tour, showed his potential by becoming the second youngest player to debut for the Blaugrana, only behind Lamine Yamal.
His inclusion in the squad list several times this season shows the great respect that the German coach has for him.
Now, as Barcelona prepares for the Super Cup, it will be interesting to see if Fernández can spring a surprise in Saudi Arabia.
From a sporting perspective, Fernández’s dynamism in the final third could be useful as Barcelona prepares for Olmo’s possible absence.
Fernández’s first coach had already described him with a profile similar to that of Lamine Yamal. He can, therefore, offer that surprise package that Barcelona needs.
