Jasprit Bumrah is likely to replace Shubman Gill as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the Champions Trophy 2025. Why was Shubman Gill overlooked?
Gill’s appointment as vice-captain after the T20 World Cup seemed a step towards grooming him as a future leader. However, the selectors seem to favor Bumrah’s experience in high-pressure situations.
Hardik Pandya, who was Rohit’s deputy during the 2024 T20 World Cup, was also vying for a leadership role. However, he has not been given any official captaincy or vice-captaincy title in the white-ball format since then.
