Jasprit Bumrah has rewritten history in the ICC Test bowling rankings. The Indian pacer reached 907 rating points in the latest rankings. He has surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin’s previous record of 904 points from December 2016. This makes Bumrah India the highest-rated Test bowler of all time.
This milestone is largely due to his outstanding performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. Against Australia in the Melbourne Test, Bumrah took nine wickets. In this way he equals the Englishman Derek Underwood in 17th place on the all-time list.
Approaching another record
Bumrah’s heroics in the series are not just limited to ratings. He is just six wickets away from breaking the Indian record for most wickets in a Test series. Fans will be watching closely as India prepares for the final match in Sydney where Bumrah could achieve another milestone.
Moving forward, Australia’s Pat Cummins earned 15 points after taking six wickets in the Boxing Day Test. This helped him rise to third place in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings and secure a place in the top three of the Test all-rounder rankings. His contributions with the bat, including a crucial 90 runs, were instrumental in Australia’s victory over India.
South African Marco Jansen also made a big jump. His seven wickets against Pakistan at Centurion took him six places to fifth in the bowling rankings, marking the first time he crossed the 800-point mark.
Batting rankings undergo significant changes
The Test batting rankings also witnessed notable changes. Yashasvi Jaiswal reached a career-best fourth position after her brave performances, while Steve Smith moved up three places to seventh. Saudi Shakeel and Nitish Kumar Reddy also made significant gains, with Reddy jumping 20 places after a standout performance.
Meanwhile, in the clash between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi stole the show with double centuries, catapulting them to the top of the batting charts. Rahmat rose 21 spots to 52nd, while Shahidi jumped 25 spots to 57th.
In the T20I rankings, Pathum Nissanka moved closer to the top five after consistent performances in the New Zealand-Sri Lanka series. Mitchell Santner also made it into the top 10 bowlers, showing his all-round brilliance.
