The Professional League The fixture for the 2025 first division season was drawn this Friday at the Lionel Andrés Messi property in Ezeiza. The first will begin the last weekend of January and will run until June 1, while the second will be played between July 13 and December 14.
As the leaders had arranged, the highest category of football will play two drinks throughout the year calendar, so the 30 teams are initially divided into two zoneswith the classics facing each other and an interzonal date. First, the members of the two zones were defined. Boca and Racing will be in Zone A, while River, Independiente and San Lorenzo will play in Zone B.
Another novelty is that the relegations will return to the First National: it will be one for the Annual Table, which adds the points of the two Tournaments (as the AFA calls them), and another for the averages. In turn, two other teams will be promoted from the second category, so the 30 teams will remain in the First Division of Argentine soccer for 2026, if fulfilled.

Both zones are integrated in order, respecting the classics, which will be played with the crossing of a team from each zone, one per date: Argentinos-Platense, Aldosivi-San Martín de San Juan, Central Córdoba-Atlético Tucumán, Boca -River, etc. Specifically, it has already emerged that River and Boca will face each other on April 27in the Monumental, on the 15th. In addition, the 8th day was reserved for the interzonals, in which rivals from the two zones will meet, but on this occasion they will not be classics.
The Avellaneda classic will be played before. It is announced that in the Libertadores de América, Independiente will host Racing on matchday 10, also in one of the interzonal matches, in mid-March. Closer to the schedule, on matchday 7, will be the duel between Huracán and San Lorenzo on the Globo field, in the main match to be played on the last weekend of February. On date 6, a week before, the Rosario classic is planned: Rosario Central will visit Newell’s. At the end of March, on the 11th, Belgrano will host Talleres at the great event in Córdoba. April will begin with the Mendoza classic: Godoy Cruz – Independiente Rivadavia. And Gimnasia will face Estudiantes on the Lobo court on 13, initially on April 13.
For the first date of zone A, the following will be measured: Boca – Argentinos; Students (La Plata) – Union; Belgrano (Córdoba) – Hurricane; Barracas Central – Racing; Newell’s – Independiente Rivadavia; Defense and Justice – Banfield and Central Córdoba (Santiago del Estero) – Aldosivi. The interzonal will be: Tigre – Vélez.
On date 8, which will be the interzonal match, they will face each other: Banfield – Independiente; River – Estudiantes (La Plata); Velez – Hurricane; Barracas Central – Godoy Cruz; Independent Rivadavia – Lanús; Atlético Tucumán – Newell’s; Argentines – Institute; Platense – Defense and Justice; Unión – Gimnasia (La Plata); Workshops (Córdoba) – Tigre; Central Córdoba – Riestra; San Lorenzo – Racing; San Martín (San Juan) – Belgrano; Boca – Rosario Central and Aldosivi – Sarmiento.
With the news of the expansion to 30 teams -until now there were 28-, the dispute of two short tournaments. There will be no long competition, all against all, as in the second half of 2024. In addition, the 30 teams will be divided into two zones (A and B), leaving the classic rivals in different keys. There will be an interzonal day (the eighth) in each of the two tournaments. The classic pairings will be scattered throughout the rest of the day: that is why River-Boca will meet at the Monumental.
The eight best placed in each group will qualify for the round of 16. Both this instance and the next one (quarterfinals) will be played on the court of the team that is best placed in the regular phase. The semi-finals and final will be in a neutral stadium. The tournament in the second half of the year will reverse the locations of the first. An example: the superclásico of the first half is played at the Monumental, so the second half will be played at the Bombonera.
