Maharashtra defeated Meghalaya in dominant fashion by 9 wickets on Thursday. After the match, Himan ran to the locker room to take a photo with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

“With the Captain of the 2023 Asian Games gold medal winning @indiancricketteam. Captain of the Maharashtra Cricket Association and Captain of my all-time favorite IPL team @chennaiipl. @ruutu.131. What a calm and collected player you are and also a great leader. You make batting look as elegant as ever. It was great to play against you, the usual yellows,” wrote Himan Phukan on his Instagram story.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was the captain of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Asian Games in October 2023. Before that, he was named captain of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 after MS Dhoni stepped down from the role. He led the team to the final where they eventually lost to the Gujarat Titans. However, Gaikwad has emerged as one of the leading contenders for captaincy within the Indian Cricket fraternity.

Maharashtra defeats Meghalaya by 9 wickets

Talking about the game, Maharashtra defeated Meghalaya in quite a dominant manner. Siddhes Veer was the hero of Maharashtra’s victory as he contributed with both the ball and the bat. Meghalaya had won the toss and decided to bat first. Siddhesh Veer’s 3-wicket haul helped Maharashtra restrict Meghalaya to a modest total of 113 in 37.1 overs.

Chasing the target, it was once again Siddesh Veer who emerged as the villain of Meghalaya. Opening the batting, Veer scored 57 not out off 66 balls as Maharashtra comfortably chased down the total in 19.2 overs. The victory propelled Maharashtra to the top of the Group B points table.
