Ansu Fati is going through a difficult phase at FC Barcelona, with the striker falling out of favor under coach Hansi Flick.
The striker was excluded from the squad for Barça’s two Spanish Super Cup matches, a decision by coach Flick that sent a clear message: Ansu is currently one of the last options in the hierarchy.
The absence of the 22-year-old in the semifinal against Athletic Club is striking, where 16-year-old Toni Fernández was selected ahead of him.
Flick shows the doors.
Now, according to SPORT, Ansu Fati’s continuity at Barça for the remainder of the season is uncertain and Hansi Flick has made it clear that the forward is no longer an important part of his plans.
In fact, even before the Super Cup, Ansu was also left without a starting spot against UD Barbastro, only featuring in the second half, a further indication that he is now seen as an occasional option for low-profile matches.
Barcelona are therefore no longer ruling out the possibility of a loan move for their number 10, although Ansu harbors doubts about going down that route after his experience at Brighton & Hove Albion last season.
There is no lack of interest in the Spaniard despite his problems at Barcelona. Clubs like Sevilla, Real Betis, Valencia and Girona have been interested in his situation.
Injuries again harm Ansu Fati
Upon returning from his loan spell at Brighton in the summer, Ansu was once again linked with a move away, but Flick opted to put his faith in the 22-year-old.
However, a foot injury in pre-season training left the striker out of action for a couple of months. While he eventually returned in September, minutes were difficult to come by and he made minimal impact when given the opportunity.
Fati then suffered another injury that left him sidelined for almost a month. Since recovering, he has barely appeared with Flick. With the signings of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, his chances of having regular playing time have been reduced even further.
Therefore, there is a feeling that a restart outside the club could be the best option for Ansu. With plenty of time left in the January window, it will be interesting to see how things develop.
