India head coach Gautam Gambhir dismissed speculations of unrest in the dressing room following the team’s 184-run loss to Australia in the MCG Test. In a pre-match press conference on January 2, Gambhir assured that the atmosphere in the Indian camp is positive and that the team remains united despite the setback.

“Everything’s fine. Team first. It is a team game and everyone understands it,” Gambhir stated firmly.
The rumors gained momentum after reports hinted at tensions within the team, claiming that Gautam Gambhir had reprimanded players for not adapting to match situations. However, the former Indian captain was quick to clarify that any discussion in the locker room is strictly private and should not be misconstrued.

“Discussions between a player and a coach should remain between them. “Any conversation in the locker room should stay in the locker room,” he added.
Questions about Rohit Sharma’s announcement
The focus remains on Rohit Sharma, whose disappointing form has sparked debates over his inclusion in the playing XI for the final Test. Gambhir, however, refused to reveal any details.
“Let’s take a look at the wicket and announce the playing XI tomorrow,” Gambhir said when asked about Rohit’s place.
Rohit’s performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy have been disappointing. In five innings, the captain only managed 31 runs, at an average of 6.20. This marks the lowest level for a touring captain in Australia with a minimum of five innings.
If Rohit falls, Shubman Gill is expected to replace him as opener. Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lead the team in his absence.
Australia finalizes its starting eleven
Meanwhile, Australia have announced their XI for the Sydney Test. Captain Pat Cummins confirmed that all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been dropped, making way for Beau Webster’s Test debut.
“Mitchell Starc is fit and will play,” Cummins added, putting to rest concerns about Starc’s back problems.
India is currently 1-2 in the series. They face a must-win scenario in Sydney to keep their World Test Championship final hopes alive. Therefore, the pressure is on for India.
