Barça Universal brings you the evaluations of the Barcelona 7-1 Valencia players.
Wojciech Szczesny: 7
The Polish goalkeeper was hardly tested against Valencia, as Barcelona maintained complete control of the game and barely gave the visitors a chance to retain the ball.
He made a rash drive into the box and conceded a penalty once again, but was lucky to have it disallowed for an earlier foul on Kounde.
Alejandro Balde: 7.5
The left-back continues to grow and impress in his niche and increasingly looks more dangerous in attack.
Balde was a powerful threat on the left, always looking to advance in attack and showing great positional awareness.
He got an assist for Ferran Torres’ goal that night with a perfectly weighted pass into the box.
Pau Cubarsi: 8.5
The young man has become Flick’s most trusted resource at the back, and rightly so, given his maturity and positional awareness at only 18 years old.
He gave a defensive masterclass against Valencia and largely protected Barcelona’s penalty area. He also racked up a sensational assist for Fermín’s first goal of the night.
Eric García: 7.5
The Spanish defender started against Valencia ahead of Ronald Araujo and clearly demonstrated what he brings to the table: elite ball skills.
While Garcia was decent with his defensive contributions, it was his ability to play out from the back that stood out and shined.
Jules Koundé: 7.5
Kounde, as always, had a ball down Barcelona’s right wing as he linked up with Lamine Yamal to pose regular threats and ask questions of the Valencia defence.
Marc Casado: 7.5
A solid performance from the youth star who continued his quiet dominance in midfield, winning loose balls and keeping the ball in Barcelona’s possession on the team’s night.
Frenkie de Jong: 8
The captain looks a much more natural part of the team with each passing game and last night he did a great job replacing Pedri in midfield.
He opened the scoring with a simple shot after an assist from Lamine Yamal and controlled the process by dictating the pace of the game.
Fermin Lopez: 10
He The Masia The midfielder finally looked his old self again for the first time this season. In many ways, the game against Valencia was the one in which Fermín announced his return as one of the best in the business.
The youngster was phenomenal all over the park, creating opportunities with his runs between the lines, providing key passes and even collaborating defensively.
He scored his first goal of the season with a wonderful finish off the assist from Cubarsi and completed his brace at the end of the half by volleying the rebound from Raphinha’s shot.
He even racked up an assist for the Brazilian’s goal and later for Lewandowski’s goal that same night.
Lamin Yamal: 9
The youngster was involved in setting up almost all of Barcelona’s goals that night and it’s pretty clear why he is one of the coach’s most reliable attacking weapons.
He got the assist for Frenkie de Jong’s first goal, played a key role in setting up Raphinha’s goal and again split the defense in the sequence leading up to Fermín López’s second goal that night.
Rafinha: 9
The Brazilian continued his good streak of the season, scoring again and improving his tally in the Pichichi standings.
He could have completed his double at the end of the half, but his shot rattled off the crossbar and fell kindly for Fermín.
Ferran Torres: 9
The former Valencia star was a bright spark against his former club, playing in place of Robert Lewandowski and creating a constant threat in the box.
He scored Barcelona’s second goal of the night thanks to an assist from Balde, but he could very well have had a hat-trick to his name.
He also played a key role in the seventh goal, forcing the error that led to the own goal.
Robert Lewandowski: 8
He came on as a second-half substitute and scored almost instantly with great acuity, showing that he still has that lethal touch.
