BCCI to honor Jay Shah in special general meeting

The BCCI is all set to celebrate Jay Shah’s big leap to the top of cricket administration. Shah, who recently became ICC president, will be honored at the board’s Extraordinary General Meeting (SGM) on January 12. While Shah will not attend the meeting, the BCCI plans to make his felicitation a highlight of the event.

Jay Shah’s journey to becoming ICC president

Jay Shah took over as ICC President on December 1, 2024, bringing years of experience in cricket administration. His journey in cricket began with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) in 2009 and since then he has become one of the most powerful figures in world cricket.

During his tenure as BCCI secretary, Shah oversaw some important milestones. He played an important role in the development of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the largest cricket stadium in the world. He also helped India host the entire 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Big decisions under Shah’s leadership

Since taking charge of the ICC, Shah has already made some important calls. One of the most notable decisions was the resolution of the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy 2025. The ICC confirmed that Pakistan will host the tournament, but any match between India and Pakistan will be played at a neutral venue.

“The ICC Board has approved that matches between India and Pakistan during ICC events from 2024 to 2027 will be played at neutral venues,” an ICC statement read.

Elections for the new secretary and treasurer of the BCCI will also be held at the SGM. These roles fell vacant after the elevation of Jay Shah as CPI president and the election of Ashish Shelar as MLA in Maharashtra.

Shah’s vision for the future of cricket

As ICC president, Shah is expected to drive global expansion and inclusivity of cricket. His leadership style is seen as modern and forward-thinking, aiming to keep cricket relevant for future generations while respecting its traditions.

With big ICC events like the Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup looming, Shah’s influence will play a key role in shaping the future of the sport.
