Barcelona’s relationship with Sevilla has reportedly hit rock bottom, and this deterioration in ties has influenced the club’s decision to rule out a possible transfer of Ansu Fati to the Andalusian side.
According to SPORT, the fallout is due to multiple incidents that have left Barcelona unwilling to enter into any transfer agreement with Sevilla in the future.
Tension began to increase after Sevilla’s position on the Negreira case. His refusal to support Barcelona during this controversial period caused friction between the two clubs.
Things got worse when Sevilla put pressure on La Liga during discussions over Dani Olmo’s registration, further aggravating relations.
For Barcelona, these actions marked a significant break in the previously cordial relationship, leading the Catalan giants to sever all institutional ties with Sevilla.
Problems between Barcelona and Seville
This tense dynamic reached a boiling point last season when Sevilla officials boycotted the VIP box at the Montjuic stadium during a Barcelona match, citing the Negreira case as the reason.
This move deeply upset Barcelona, who had previously maintained friendly ties with the Sevilla management.
The two clubs shared a history of successful transfer negotiations, with Barcelona being a key contributor to Sevilla’s financial stability through high-value deals over the years.
The Dani Olmo case
Since then, animosity has grown even more with the Olmo case. Several La Liga clubs, including Sevilla, have been pressuring the league and the Spanish Football Federation to examine Barcelona’s financial operations.
Some clubs have even threatened legal action over player registrations, with Sevilla reportedly being among the staunchest opponents.
Sevilla had expressed interest in signing Ansu during the January transfer market and even had their coach communicate directly with the player’s representatives. However, he chose to stay at Barcelona to fight for his place in the team.
In recent months, Sevilla has revived its interest in signing a forward and a winger for the next January window. Despite their efforts, Barcelona have made it clear that Ansu will not be part of any negotiations with Sevilla.
