Having put his injury problems behind him, Barcelona sensation Pedri has once again shown this season why he is considered one of the best midfielders in football today.
The 22-year-old has become one of the most important cogs in Hansi Flick’s team, which could win its first trophy of the season tonight when it faces Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Given Pedri’s importance to the team, Barcelona are keen to tie him down to a new contract, especially given that his current one expires in 2026.
Pedri’s contract renewal is assured
Negotiations have been going on for some time now and journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the renewal of Pedri’s contract with Barcelona will “certainly” take place in the coming months.
This update comes after the Spanish midfielder himself confirmed earlier this week that talks between his agents and the club were progressing very positively.
“What my agents and the club tell me is that everything is going well. It is not a good time to talk about renewals on the eve of a final. “I am more focused on the final than on my renewal,” he said on the eve of the Super Cup final.
Pedri has appeared in each of Barcelona’s 27 matches in all competitions this season, even contributing four goals and three assists in the process. However, what it contributes goes beyond those numbers.
Recurring injuries had been a problem for the young Spanish international in the past, but that appears to be a thing of the past as the midfielder looks better physically this season while also playing his best football.
Pedri is happy at Barça and a long-term renewal, possibly until 2030 as previously reported, is on the way.
