In statements to Radio MARCA, the former goalkeeper of Real Madrid and Spain, Santiago Cañizares, has stated that the president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, must face the consequences of the mess created by the club with the release of Dani Olmo.
The former La Liga star questioned the methods and ways of the blaugrana on how they had approached the whole registration issue, accusing them of trying to break the rules set by La Liga.
“I think it is extremely serious. “It is the result of the irresponsibility of people who have become accustomed to breaking the rules of La Liga, who have now become serious and said that they cannot allow what they deny to others.” Cañizares said about the Olmo saga.
“Barça has gone to court, which is the lowest thing that can be done, but it hasn’t worked… and thank goodness, because it would have dismantled the entire financial history that LaLiga has as a form of control.” he added.
“You can question that control model, but you can’t allow a club to violate the rule.”
Speaking specifically about Laporta, Cañizares commented: “For me it has lost all credibility. Before, they had Mateu Alemany, who knew how to do engineering with numbers, but now he is no longer there because they have dispensed with him.
“It is logical that there are associations that call for the president’s resignation.”
As reported, Olmo has a special clause in his contract that will allow him to leave Barcelona as a free agent if he is not registered.
Regarding what he thinks the Spanish international will do in this situation, Cañizares stated: “Well, I don’t know, but he can’t play for Barça…. What should I do? Well, he can’t be out for six months because of the negligence of some managers.
“We are talking about an important player. When you get injured for a month, you almost get depressed, so imagine six.”
The former goalkeeper also recalled that Pau Víctor is also in the same situation as Olmo, and added that there will be consequences against Laporta for this whole fiasco.
“We must not forget Pau Víctor, who is in the same situation. What happened is that they did not pay 60 million euros, as happened with Olmo. What has happened is very serious and I do not need to imagine more tragedies.” said.
“There are going to be consequences against Laporta because the partners cannot look the other way. It is very easy to look the other way and say that it is others who want to screw them, but there came a time when there was no other way out.”
