According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Andreas Christensen has resumed training with the rest of the FC Barcelona squad.
The open house, held after a short Christmas break, is said to have been packed with children eager to see their favorite stars in action.
The Danish defender was seen participating in all the drills led by coach Hansi Flick, which is an encouraging sign for the team.
Although Christensen has not yet been medically cleared to return to competitive action, his participation in training suggests his return is imminent.
What happened to Christensen?
The 28-year-old has endured a frustrating season so far. In the opening match against Valencia he played just over 20 minutes before being diagnosed with tendinopathy in his left Achilles tendon.
This injury has kept him out for months. While there is no official date for his return, the expectation is that Christensen could return in the first weeks of January 2025, offering a significant boost to Barcelona’s defensive options.
Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Barcelona took advantage of Christensen’s medical absence earlier this season to resolve their squad’s registration issues. The club temporarily registered its summer signing, Dani Olmo, taking advantage of Christensen’s vacancy.
However, with Olmo’s registration expiring at the end of December, Barcelona are working tirelessly to secure his definitive inclusion in the squad.
Future in doubt
Amid this, reports have emerged linking Manchester United with an interest in Christensen.
British media claim that United are considering the Danish defender as a solution to their defensive problems, particularly after the disappointing impact of their new signing Leny Yoro.
However, Christensen remains under contract with Barcelona until 2026, making any potential move a complex negotiation.
For now, Barcelona fans will hope that Christensen’s return to full fitness will add much-needed stability to the team’s defensive line as they continue to strive for success on multiple fronts.
