Barcelona interested in free transfer for Arsenal midfielder: report

With the January transfer window just around the corner, Barcelona are actively exploring the market for potential reinforcements.

Thomas Partey on Barcelona’s radar

With this in mind, Barcelona are keeping an eye on Thomas Partey, whose Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season.

This is according to Sports Worldwhich suggest that Barça’s sporting director, Deco, has been following his evolution for a long time.

Barcelona’s interest in Partey comes after uncertainty about the future of Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman’s contract expires in 2026 and Barcelona fear that he will choose to cancel his contract and leave the club as a free agent.

Partey is a perfect fit due to his power and ability to circulate possession in the middle of the park. Not to mention he brings significant experience, having featured in over 100 matches in La Liga and the Premier League.

Partey is also highly valued due to his versatility, as he can not only operate in the double pivot but also in the right-back position, making him a possible alternative to Jules Kounde.

Barcelona are therefore expected to attempt to sign Partey on a free transfer, although the club will face stiff competition from Arsenal, who are interested in retaining the midfielder’s services.
