Earlier today, FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick faced the media as part of his press conference ahead of the Spanish Super Cup match against Real Madrid on Sunday.
During the press conference there was a surprising moment when the Barça coach was informed by coach Arnau Blanco that two of his captains, Raphinha and Ronald Araujo, requested an urgent meeting with him.
In fact, according to MARCA, upon receiving a text message, Blanco told Flick between the press conference: “The coach, Araujo and Raphinha want to talk to you.”
The German coach, while analyzing the upcoming clash, found himself faced with the immediate demand for a meeting from the two team captains.
Interestingly, this came just after Flick diplomatically addressed the Araujo situation, with the 25-year-old heavily linked with an exit this month.
“There have always been rumors since I have been here. We have to be professional. Ronald is coming back from a tough injury and we have to take care of him. “He’s back and he’s very professional.” Flick stated.
“It’s not my job to talk about it, but I want it on my team. He is one of the best defenders.”
While Flick attempted to downplay the rumours, the urgency of the meeting requested by Araujo could suggest otherwise. The participation of Raphinha, Araujo’s closest friend on the team and co-captain, increased the intrigue even more.
A busy day for Flick
The eve of the final was a whirlwind for Flick. After the press conference and a photo session with Carlo Ancelotti, he faced an afternoon training session full of critical decisions.
Between these tasks, Flick had to face several high-stakes meetings, including discussions surrounding Araujo.
Not only Araujo and Raphinha were seeking an audience with the coach. Pini Zahavi, Flick’s agent and close confidant of Barcelona president Joan Laporta, also requested a meeting with the German coach.
At the beginning of 2025, Flick already dealt with the ‘Dani Olmo case’, and now faces the uncertainty surrounding Araujo.
The defender’s contract expires in 2026 and he has not yet accepted Barcelona’s renewal offer. Plagued by injuries and removed from the starting lineup, Araujo is considering his future.
Juventus have been actively pursuing the player, making compelling arguments for a transfer, even as Araujo contemplates his future at Barcelona.
