The League has shown promising signs towards the battle against racism in recent years, and the star of Real Madrid, Vinicius Jr., has had an important role to play in it.
As a constant ambassador to the anti -racism posture, the League has always been favored by the League and granted protection against racist insults with whom they quickly inflict it.
The League, however, has once again demonstrated a double standard on that front with the latest statements by Javier Thebas that are nothing less than a misfortune.
A disappointing statement
Barcelona’s tie against Getafe earlier this month was an ugly game in many ways, but a problem that contaminated the night was the racist insult towards the Blaugrana Superstar Alejandro Balde.
The young Izquierdo admitted after the game he heard insults directed towards him depending on the color of his skin during the game and the problem stood out immediately since racism does not take place in football.
However, speaking in a recent interview (H/T Cope), the president of the League, Thebes, was asked about the situation he said surprisingly:
“The problem of bucket is a problem that only he heard and we have to see what has happened.”
“Sometimes there are questions about … because that’s what the party officials are, there are more people. It was seen whether or not he continued and it seems that they did not continue,” Thebes added little convincing.
While it is known that Thebes is a supporter of Real Madrid for a long time, there are certain themes in sport where the double standard simply cannot take a place. His reaction to the statement of bucket and pointing to his possible being nothing is atrocious.
“It was a complicated situation. I received several insults. I don’t know what to say ” Balde said today in an interview, confirming that he really faced insults.
It remains to see what action, if any, take the league and thebes, given the contempt shown by the president of the League in his comments.
