The UEFA Champions League League phase concluded last night, with all the teams ending its eight games.
Barcelona finished second in the general classification after a 2-2 draw with Atalanta at night. The Catalans could have finished the top if they could secure a victory against the Italians.
However, while Barcelona assured the automatic qualification for the stage of Round 16, you cannot say the same of its great European rivals, including Paris Saint-Germain.
Luis Enrique On Facing Barcelona
The PSG finished 15º at the table despite ensuring a convincing 4-1 victory over Stuttgart. This, of course, meant that the PSG faces the possibility of facing Barcelona or Liverpool once they qualify for the 16 -round stage.
Speaking to the press after the game, his coach Luis Enrique even asked about PSG’s opponents in the knockout rounds.
However, Enrique admitted that he does not expect the idea of not facing Barcelona or Liverpool.
When asked about the possibility of facing Liverpool and Barcelona in the 16 -round stage, Enrique responded (H/T FCB World), “No no, Barcelona no, and Liverpool either.”
Enrique’s fear of facing Barça is not surprising since Catalans have played impeccable football in European competitions this season.
They have scored goals for fun and have been quite unbeatable in their day, as evidenced by their entertaining victory over Benfica recently.
The PSG, meanwhile, will not have to deal with the immediate perspective of facing Barcelona. In fact, Enrique’s men will have to go through a knockout playoff, where they will face SL Benfica.
Barcelona, on the other hand, will wait for the results of the played playoffs before preparing for the 16 -stage round, potentially against the PSG.
