Pablo Barrios of Atlético de Madrid has expressed his opinion on the upcoming match against Barcelona, highlighting that although Barcelona’s star player Lamine Yamal will miss the match, he is not happy about it.
This highly anticipated clash between the two teams will play a big role in deciding who will sit at the top of the La Liga standings, and Barrios recognizes the challenge Barcelona pose, even without Yamal.
In statements to SER, the 21-year-old midfielder shared his vision about the current state of both teams. He reflected on how Atlético Madrid’s season began with doubts about their form, much like those Barcelona faced earlier in the campaign.
Evaluating Barcelona
Despite some recent setbacks for Barcelona, Barrios was quick to praise his team and described them as a fantastic team.
“Well, that’s what happened to us at the beginning, but on the contrary. At first they said we had doubts and look how they were doing, they were playing incredible.”
He mentioned that although Barcelona has not managed to achieve victories in its last games, it still has outstanding players, which makes it a difficult opponent to face.
“The truth is that they have a great team and although they have not managed to win in the last games, they have great players and it will be a very difficult game.” he added.
The absence of Lamine Yamal
Asked about the absence of Lamine Yamal for the next game, Barrios highlighted his empathy for the young player.
He acknowledged how difficult it can be for players, especially young ones, to be sidelined.
As a player, Barrios knows the frustration of not being able to go out on the field. He wished Yamal a speedy recovery, showing solidarity despite being rivals on the field.
“Well… no. I think for him I know what it’s like to be off the field, it’s very complicated. We are young, we always want to play. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery.” he explained.
Atlético will fight for the title
On the topic of Atlético Madrid’s ambitions for the season, Barrios said his team can challenge Barcelona for the title.
He reflected on his previous statements at the beginning of the season, at a time when things were not going well for Atlético.
“I said it at the beginning of the season when things didn’t go well. I said that we had a great team with the people who came and those who were here, but this is long, we have to go little by little, game by game.
Overall, although Barrios expressed respect for Barcelona, he remains focused on Atlético’s ambitions and is confident they can compete for La Liga this season.
