Barça can always play Classic in Montjuic, but the agreement with the City Council is only valid until April. Not to mention there’s a Rolling Stones concert scheduled for the same weekend as the Classic.
With that in mind, Barcelona is considering changing the Classic to another stadium in Europe, which can accommodate a match of such high magnitude.
Real Madrid willing to respect Barcelona’s move
A recent report from Sport has revealed what Real Madrid think about Barcelona’s strategy of changing the Classic to a location outside of Spain.
According to the report, Real Madrid are willing to respect Barcelona’s move, knowing that the Catalans may have no other options if the Camp Nou is not match-ready by May.
This comes on the back of a similar report which claimed that authorities, including the RFEF, could be willing to approve Barcelona’s move.
In case the authorities, the green movement, Real Madrid have no qualms about traveling to a place outside of Spain to play against Barcelona.
Madrid, in fact, see this as a favorable result for the club, knowing that Barcelona might not receive the same support in a foreign stadium as they would at Camp Nou or Montjuic, for that matter.
Playing on a neutral ground, therefore, is a real favor from Madrid rather than playing on Barcelona’s home ground.
That said, Barcelona’s main objective is to push construction work forward and prepare for the Camp Nou Match before May 11.
The Catalans are also considering other alternatives, including changing Classic For Montilivi, a much smaller ground but with a full Catalan crowd.
