Manchester United have contacted Barcelona defender valued at €20m: report

As already reported today, following Ronald Araujo’s decision to continue at the club, FC Barcelona could open the doors for Eric García or Andreas Christensen to leave this month.

Garcia has attracted huge interest at Girona, where he spent last season on loan and impressed.

As for Christensen, he still has admirers in the Premier League, where he built a solid reputation with Chelsea. In fact, one of those admirers may have even made the decision to explore a possible transfer this month.

Manchester United establishes contact

In fact, according to SPORT, Manchester United have been in contact with Barcelona in recent weeks about a possible move for Christensen in the current January transfer window.

However, the report adds that Premier League bigwigs have not submitted any formal offer for the Danish international.

Christensen has been out of action for almost five months due to an ankle injury. The defender has played just 26 minutes so far this season, but is all set to return to the squad this weekend against Getafe.

The former Chelsea international has often been praised by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick for his professionalism while also bringing versatility to the table with his ability to play as a defensive midfielder.

However, given that his contract expires in 2026 and there is a surplus of defensive personnel on the roster, an exit cannot be ruled out at this time.

Barcelona need to free up some cap space this month as they plan to strengthen their attacking unit with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see if they decide to part ways with Christensen to make room and if the 28-year-old ends up moving to the other side of Old Trafford.
